I can imagine how many people will condemn me for saying this but, I think “The Hangover” series is the most overrated movie (series) ever! How it reached 2 more sequels – I really can’t fathom why. I thought it was bad enough for me to spend 10 bucks and 100 minutes on the first movie, then 2 more installations came out. Why would anyone waste more time or resources on this?
Basically, it’s about three guys take their groom-to-be friend to Vegas, spend a wild night on the Strip, and wake up the next morning unable to remember a single thing. Subsequently, they resolve to figure out what happened in search of their missing buddy who’s getting married soon – and this provides the structure for the movie.
Firstly, I’m sceptical that the bromance characterised in this movie is even relevant anymore? The kind of relationship they have and the activities they plan to do seem so passe and juvenile. Perhaps, all three men have some personality problems and the Vegas trip works on them like applied emergency therapy. But, the thing is, they go through a series of comedic set pieces which didn’t even fit into any kind of narrative and claims this to be the plot and/or character arch.
On that note, I really can’t comprehend what’s so hilarious about the movie. It was a brainless comedy that didn’t know what its doing. They were middle-aged man having a midlife crisis. The jokes didn’t feel “classic” they felt old, bland, boring and predictable. Virtually every joke either is visible long before it arrives or extends way past its expiration date. Somehow, it felt forced and empty; as though their “fun” wasn’t real nor genuine at all.
The story looked like a bunch of toilet jokes and elementary grade humour slapped together resulting in a stupid forgettable comedy which definitely doesn’t live up to the hype. It was classless, tasteless, idiotic, and immature – something your mother totally wouldn’t approve of. Like, just check this out:
Melissa: I just wish your friends were as mature as you.
Stu Price: They are mature, actually. You just have to get to know them better.
Phil Wenneck: [yells from outside] Paging Dr. Faggot. Dr. Faggot!
Stu Price: I should go.
Melissa: That’s a good idea, Dr. Faggot.
Also, I really don’t appreciate how they portrayed women as shrews, whores and/or fools-though. If any, these are the exact obnoxious good-for-nothing men I would avoid. What values is this movie perpetuating?!
All in all, the story was poor, the pace was slow, the dialogue as barely mediocre. Honestly, while watching the movie, I felt like I should just go, have some drinks, and show them how it’s done instead. I don’t understand why people would like watching these people get drunk and go through their hangover. Live your own life, people!
Okay. I don’t think I want to spend any further time discussing this as well. Can you just please move onto Cumuloq‘s page for her take on the most overrated movie?
Have a bright and shiny day – at least one that’s better than these fellas! Tata!
